Market Study on Microfinance
The study aimed at providing the client with a market study on the microfinance industry in Lebanon. The study was conducted at 3 levels:
A detailed study of microfinance suppliers in Lebanon, market penetration, market share, geographical distribution, and lending modalities. This phase of study heavily relied on literature review supplemented by interviews with key industry players
A national statistic on microfinance-demand in Lebanon. This phase took as its sample 10,000 Lebanese citizens throughout 25 Lebanese cazas. Questionnaires tested need for credit, repayment abilities, preferred products, viable economic sectors, gender differences, sectarian differences, regional disparities, etc…
Nine focus groups to cross validate findings of the survey. Focus groups were conducted (and taped) in: Mosaitbeh, Basta, Saida, Akkar, Burj Hammoud, Bent Jbeil, Majdal Anjar, Arsal, Tebbaneh, and Bebnine.
Financial module for launching a microfinance program for three years with estimated inputs, number of loans, geographical distribution, estimated revenues, IRR, business plan and cash flow.
The market study reviewed the SME sector in Lebanon, its access to microfinance, the number of Banks involved in credit industry in Lebanon, and the lending modules and products provided, including the collaterals requested from applicants for loan applications.
