Who we are?
DMI is the brainchild of 3 development practitioners who pooled their sectorial expertise and wide network of contacts into a single talents clearing-house.
Dr. Osmat is Lebanon’s most respected socio-demographer through his work at the Faculty of Sociology of the Lebanese University and his 26 publications on a variety of development topics covering Lebanon and the MENA region. Dr. Osmat has also served in a multitude of leadership positions in internationally funded projects with the World Bank, EU, and UNDP. He might be the only non-governmental official who served as a project manager for a USD 1 billion project in the Arab World.

Dr. Osmat’s last assignment was as a project manager for EU project to provide technical support to Lebanese municipalities through the office of Minister of State for Administrative Development OMSAR. The project (USD 4 million) was entitled “Preparation of Municipal Action Projects within the Framework of Planified Local Development”. The project aimed at assisting 12 municipality clusters (a total of 125 municipalities “200+ villages”) in building capacities and in developing a long term vision for local development through a set of inter-related activities, aiming at the improvement of their livelihood conditions. Ziad Moussa is a multi-disciplinary development professional with a confirmed track record in the design and management of participatory development projects, and with a particular focus on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).

Mr. Moussa consulted and/or trained on short, medium and long term basis in various development projects covering the entire Middle East and North Africa countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen), in addition to most of the European countries involved in the Euro-Med process (Belgium, France, Greece, Italy and Turkey) working directly with international donors such as IDRC, IFS, UNDP, IFAD and FAO or through EU and US based consultancy firms such as ECODIT, TRANSTEC, Louis Berger, ACDI-VOCA,… He also facilitated strategic planning seminars and multi-stakeholders networking and advocacy events in well over 30 countries across the five continents in a variety of development and intercultural topics.

The recent work of Mr. Moussa has been focused on providing M&E services to large-scale development projects and strategic planning initiatives, while his research interests were geared towards the adaptation and translation to Arabic of participatory M&E methodologies such as Most Significant Change and Outcome Mapping and the systematization of social change processes in the MENA and the MEDA contexts.Know more

Consultants

Dr. Samer Annous collaborates with DMI since 2007 and runs the DMI relay office in El Mina – Tripoli. Dr. Annous is also a Faculty member of Balamand University where he heads the Community Outreach program of the University.

Dr. Ragy Darwish is DMI’s resources economist and computer modelling expert. Before joining DMI in January 2009, Dr. Darwish spent 10 years as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the American University of Beirut and has actively participated in tens of development projects, publication, conferences and seminars about agricultural development and natural resources management.

Mr. Nidal Ghorayeb is a Certified Project Management Professional PMP with 18+ years of expertise in project management and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Nidal joined DMI in early 2007 and is responsible for the business planning aspects in DMI’s work.

Mr. Ghassan Tannous is a UNDP Senior Analyst and serves at the Office of the Prime Minister of Lebanon since 2002. Mr. Tannous has been part of DMI since its creation and brings in 20+ years of experience in applied finance and investment. Prior to being an analyst, Mr. Tannous was the Head of the Investment Promotion in the Investment Development Authority of Lebanon or five years.
